Rainbow Fluffy Slime Recipe For Kids
Our rainbow fluffy slime is just so easy to make, much like the regular slime! If you are wondering what is the difference between regular slime and fluffy slime, the answer lies in the texture.
Fluffy slime is the same as the regular slime except it is a lot more softer and fluffier, thanks to the shaving cream added to it. Shaving cream really makes a big difference here! It renders the rainbow slime a much softer texture and fluffiness. Here is how to make the best fluffy slime:
Supplies For Rainbow Fluffy Slime
- 1 cup clear glue
- 2 to 3 cups shaving foam
- 2 tsp. contact lens solution
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- Food coloring in rainbow colours – red, yellow, blue & green
- Mixing bowls & spatula
How To Make the Best Fluffy Rainbow Slime
Step 1: Take a mixing bowl and add 3 to 4 cups of shaving foam to it. You can increase the amount of foaming shaving cream if you want your rainbow slime to be more puffier.
Step 2: Add clear glue and baking soda to the shaving foam and mix it gently. Be careful not to over-mix as it will flatten the shaving foam and prevent your slime from getting that fluffy texture.
Step 3: Next, add contact lens solution to the fluffy slime mixture, one tsp. at a time, and stir gently.
Step 4: Now that the slime is almost ready, it is time to add in the food coloring. Add in a few drops of red food colour to get the desired shade and mix it well to spread the coloring uniformly.
Step 5: This is the final step to make the slime where you will have to use your hands to knead and stretch the slime for at least 5 -8 minutes. Remember, Fluffy slime requires more kneading than the regular slime.
It can feel sticky in the beginning but as you knead it will get better. In case it doesn’t, add 1-2 drops of contact lens solution but make sure to add it slowly. Too much contact solution will make your slime hard.
Once your slime is no longer sticky, consider it ready to play with.
Follow the same steps for making fluffy slime in other rainbow colors like yellow, green and blue. Once they are all ready, layer them next to each other to make your super-stretchy & fluffy rainbow slime.
That’s it! Your Rainbow Fluffy slime is ready to have fun with. An excellent visual and sensory experience, Rainbow slime is a sure shot winner with toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarten kids.

Tips to Make the Best Fluffy Rainbow Slime
While slime is pretty easy to make, it can get a little tricky. Just a few extra drops of contact solution can rob it off its elasticity or using the wrong contact solution can land it in a puddle.
But worry not, here I am sharing the best slime tips and slime safety precautions that I have learned through trial and error over the years of making slime. I can assure these can save you a lot of trouble and give your kids the best homemade slime ever.
- In case you feel the slime is too runny, add more clear glue to the mixture. And if it is too sticky, adding a few drops of contact solution will fix it. Make sure to add small incremental amounts and not too much at one time.
- This borax free slime recipe uses a contact solution. I don’t recommend any specific brand but you do need to ensure that the contact solution you use to make this recipe has boric acid and sodium borate in its ingredients. I have tried Equate & Renu Fresh contact solution and both work equally well. While borax is a harsh chemical, contact solution with boric acid and sodium borate are mild and do not cause skin irritation. But in any case, if you or your child has sensitive skin, I recommend wearing disposable gloves while kneading the slime.
- If any skin irritation or redness develops while handling slime, please discard it immediately.
- Apply baby oil on hands while you are kneading the slime. It will prevent it from sticking on your hands.
- Always make slime on a flat surface covered with a plastic sheet. Making slime is a messy business and you don’t want to ruin your kids’ experience by fretting over the mess.
- Use Plastic bowls and silicon spatulas to mix slime as they are easier to clean.
- To store slime, use zip-lock pouches or airtight containers. The fluffiness will die out after a day but storing the slime in airtight pouches will prevent it from drying out and getting hard.
- Adult supervision is necessary while making slime.
- Slime should never be put in mouth. If you have young kids who like to take things in their mouth, I recommend making edible slime.
- Make sure to tie your and your child’s hair while you are making/playing with slime. You would not want the mess in your hair and in case it does get to your hair, apply baby oil on the section and gently comb it out.
Well! That’s pretty much. I am sure with all these simple to follow slime tips & safety precautions your kids will have the best time playing and making slime.
Happy Sliming!
