How To Make Star Wreath Paper Craft for 4th of July
Time needed: 30 minutes
- Cut craft paper to make 3D stars
Cut out squares to make 3D stars from red, white and blue construction paper. We used three sizes – 12cm x 12cm, 10cm x 10cm, and 8cm x 8cm.
- Fold the paper.
To make a 3D star, start with 12 x 12 and fold it in half
- Fold diagonally.
Fold any one of the short sides diagonally and align it with the adjacent longer side.
- Unfold the last fold
- Make another diagonal fold.
Now, fold the same short side diagonally and align it with the opposite adjacent longer side.
- Unfold the last fold again.
- Fold the corner of closed side to meet the intersection of previous folds.
Hold the corner of the closed side (of the half-fold) and join it with the intersected point of the diagonal creases formed in the previous steps. This will form a triangle part on the top.
- Fold the inner side to make a triangle
Fold the inner-open side of the top part of the paper and join it with its outer edge neatly so as to make a triangle.
- Fold the other side of the paper to align it with the triangle.
Now, fold the closed side of the intact part (square part) along the inner edge of the triangle part formed in step 8.
- Turn over the pattern.
Turn the current origami pattern to the other side.
- Fold the pattern into half and cut.
Cut off a diagonal part from the top-open end of the origami pattern, along the yellow marked line.
- Unfold the pattern
Unfold all the folds of the pattern.
- Fold along the creases.
Fold the longer creases upwards and fold the shorter creases downwards to form the 3d star pattern.
- Make more 3D origami stars.
Similarly make more 3D stars in red, white and blue colour using sheets of different sizes, enough to cover the wreath.
- Make the base of the patriotic wreath
For the base of the 4th of July wreath, make a round wreath base from a cardboard or thick cardstock.
- Arrange the paper stars on the wreath and glue them.
Before gluing the 3d paper stars on the wreath base, arrange them on the base and check if they look nice.
- Add glitter stars
Fill in the gaps by adding glitter star cutouts or any other décor pieces in between the 3d paper stars to elevate the craft. Let your kids use their creativity.
That’s it! Your patriotic star wreath craft is ready to hang on your front door. This fun 3D paper craft is a great addition to your DIY 4th of July crafts.
What we love about this craft is its versatility. Once your kids have learned how to make this patriotic paper star wreath craft, they can easily transform it into a festive Christmas Wreath Craft by changing the colours and adding green leaves, golden bells.
